Located into the historic centre of Batalha, this monastery was raised to perpetuate the memory of Aljubarrota's battle. It was built at the end of the 14th century with patronage from King João I, The Dominican. The monument is the most significant testimony to the portuguese gothic style.

This monastery is one of the most impressive religious buildings of Portugal. It's a beautiful representation of the transition from the gothic style of architecture through to the decorative manueline style.

It's free to visit the main church but to experience the real history of this place, the paid sections must be visited. The 6€ entrance fee provides access to the founders chapel, the two cloisters and the imperfect chapels.

The monastery is inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

You have to visit. I'm sure you'll love!
